Hat Black History Month

Black History Month (BHM) honours the significant contributions of Black men and women to British society. The month-long celebration acknowledges the events and people who shaped and continue to shape our society.

At LondonEnergy, we value diversity and believe it is important to celebrate and educate ourselves about different cultures. We encourage our employees to learn about the history, accomplishments, and challenges different groups face. Understanding and appreciating each other's cultures creates a more inclusive and supportive workplace for everyone.

We caught up with Kathy-Ann Pearce, the Head of Legal and Company Secretary, about her role and what Black History Month means to her.

Tell us about your role at LEL.

As Head of Legal and Company Secretary, I oversee a wide range of key enabling functions within the organisation, which, in addition to legal and governance, includes procurement, internal audit and risk management.

Are you working on an exciting project?

I was given the opportunity to work on developing LEL's Sustainability Strategy and have been working diligently with the various parts of the organisation (from the Board to the Operations teams) on delivering on that strategy and embedding key sustainability goals within the Company's culture

Why do you think celebrating Black History Month is important?

It is always important to remember the significant contributions made by our community. While it is quite a lot to fit into one month, it provides a valuable window into the many achievements made and still being made – an inspiration for all.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Slow down and take all of life in – it goes by too quickly.

Who inspires you?

My mother. Although she is no longer with us, she continues to inspire me with the legacy she created – which lives on in the next generation.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I always wanted to be a race car driver! I still have a need for speed, so who knows?
